Most people associate inflammation with tenderness, redness and swelling but recent study has shown that every disease is either caused by or strongly influenced by inflammation. Inflammation can explain why we may have suffered from arthritis, muscle aches or even heart diseases. Many -itis diseases like periodontitis, gastritis are caused by inflammation of a specific area of the body.
What is the inflammation syndrome?
Not all inflammation are bad. Acute inflammation is normal and vital for our body – it is the kind of inflammation the fights or infection, protects and heals our body when we suffer injuries.
The other kind of chronic inflammation, also known as low grade/systemic inflammation plays a damaging role to our body. This is when our body’s immune system mistakenly triggers an inflammatory response even if there is no apparent threat present.
Take a look at the example of someone who is overweight, a disease which is affecting many people at an alarming rate. When you are overweight, your fat cells secrete chemicals like interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein, The chemicals encourage inflammation. Overweight also increases the risk of diabetes, periodontitis and or inflammatory disease.
What causes the inflammation syndrome?
Causes of unhealthy inflammation is most linked to dietary deficiencies. This causes our bodies to be receptive to inflammation triggered by certain things.
Other than changing our diet, we also need to identify what triggers inflammation in your body and try to avoid it. For example, some people are sensitive or allergic to pollen, gluten or other foodstuffs.
We have often heard the saying “You are what you eat.” This is undeniably true – the food we eat regulate our body, provide energy and build our immune system. It is the immune system that controls inflammation. If our immune system isn’t working correctly due to an imbalanced diet lack the essential vitamins and minerals, we won’t be able to fight diseases and inflammation will lead to more serious long term disorders.
