After confirm pregnant, the mother-to-be will go through numerous physical and hormonal changed during pregnancy. The mother must eat a healthy, balanced diet to ensure the baby gets sufficient nutrient.

The food that pregnant mother eat is the main source of baby’s nourishment, it is critical to consume food that is rich in nutrients. Taking proper nutrition can help promote baby’s growth and development. Basically, the pregnant mother is advised to take vitamins and supplements as according to her requirement or as recommended by doctors.

Below here are the vitamins and supplements that are recommended during pregnancy:

  • Folic Acid

Also known as folate, a vitamin B help to prevent birth defects in the baby’s brain and spinal cord (known as neural tube defects).

According to an organization, March of Dimes, recommends women who are trying to have a baby take a daily vitamin supplement containing 400 mg of folic acid per day for at least a month before becoming pregnant to prevent birth defects. During pregnancy, women are advised to increase the folic acid to 600 mg per day.

Food sources: Green leafy vegetables, fortified cereals, bread and pasta, beans, citrus fruits.

  • Iron
